Note: Impossible that Nick Cave performed. He was touring Scandinavia with The Birthday Party. "It's the poetry division of No Wave. Lydia organized a reading at Mudd in March, 1982 [sic, 1983]. I'm not sure Nick Cave showed up [he didn't, he was touring with The Birthday Party]. Bill Rice was a downtown artist and actor who had appeared in "Vortex" [movie, by Scott B. and Beth B.] with Lydia. Steve Barth was a friend of George Scott's [8 Eyed Spy] who had replaced me in Jack Ruby when I was forced to take an unplanned leave of absence from NYC. Lydia and I spent a drunken night plastering these flyers to whatever surfaces they would stick to. Then we went to a back room bar somewhere on Avenue A where I dimly recall sitting on a cardboard box drinking many shots of vodka. Mudd was packed. The flyer neglected to mention that we would be reading, not playing music, which created a bit of friction between the audience and the performers. Mudd had recently had a fire [...]. The fire had burned a hole in the floor of the VIP room above the main floor, so Steve Mass [Mudd club owner] enlarged the hole and made the main floor the stage and put the audience in stadium seating on the floor above. [...] People kept yelling things at us (and maybe throwing things) as we read or recited. I had brought a boom box and was reciting lyrics to drum tracks I had created using a record called Drum Drops. It did not go over well. The booing was plentiful. A friend of mine in the audience got in a fight with the person sitting next to him. I wish I could say I remembered the performances of the other artists on the bill but as I said, I was a touch drunk. Nevertheless, it was a night I shall remember (as best I can) with fondness." "..Jeff [Mentges] was determined to get some random member of the audience thrown out of the club – for no particular reason. We played our opening number, and throughout it he and Lydia would wildly point to some unfortunate in the audience and complain about his behavior instead of singing. We started the second song, and half way through Jeff stopped the band altogether. He announced that the band would refuse to play until until security came along and escorted this innocent out. Of course, this person was bounced out, but he did not miss much. We played a terrible show." Taken from an interview with Buck Parr and published by yellowgreenred .

"[The band] played behind an opaque plastic dropcloth, so you could barely see them. Jeff was opening cans of paint and throwing their contents onto this drop cloth. There was A LOT OF PAINT being thrown around. Eventually the dropcloth got pulled down and fell off the stage, getting paint on some of the audience. Jeff and Lydia were slipping in the paint on stage and falling all over the place. Eventually they both slid off the stage, embracing, and rolled around on the floor together entwined and wriggling, completely covered in paint. It was thoroughly disgusting. The club was furious, there was real damage." Taken from an interview with Buck Parr and published by yellowgreenred .

A half hour later, she walked out and delivered a brief performance before an audience of perhaps 200 —telling a series of harrowing tales of lust, greed, perversion and sexual degradation."
