US NY,New York City,Ridiculous Theatrical Company

Info: Premiere of "Salammbo", a play written and directed by Charles Ludlam.

Article: Scan of article from Daily News 23-Jan-85.

Note: Emilio Cubeiro stars as Matho. "[Charles Ludlam] had particular difficulties with Emilio Cubeiro who had played Mercanteggini in "Galas" and was now portraying Macho, the lead barbarian who consummates his passion for Salammbo. Cubeiro drove Ludlam crazy, repeatedly asking picayune questions regarding the psychological motives of his character, which seemed entirely superfluous given the epic nature of the play. And although, as Ludlam had commanded, Cubeiro had grown a beard for his role in the spring, he had the audacity to shave it off during the summer hiatus. Ludlam so resented this that he replaced him in the fall." from "Ridiculous!: the theatrical life and times of Charles Ludlam", a book by David A.Kaufman.
